On December 13th, Miller, Miller & Canby attorney, Helen Whelan, joined families at Sunrise Senior Living located in Silver Spring, MD to give a presentation on "Planning for the Future with your Loved One." The presentation, which included ample time for questions from the audience, focused on the importance of planning in advance for disability, and methods for planning for your estate after your death. The presentation also included issues of guardianship, trusts, estate and gift planning, as well as explaining the differences between the various powers of attorney and medical directives and their applications and limitations. Ms. Whelan encouraged family members to think about and carefully plan for their estates — for both during their lifetime and after their death. As a Certified Public Accountant with a Masters of Law in Tax, Ms. Whelan is uniquely qualified to assist her clients in both estate and elder law issues with an eye toward the tax implications of their arrangements. For more information on the things you should be thinking about and planning for now, contact Helen Whelan.
