The No-Good Son-In-Law

The No-Good Son-In-Law:

Mary was a 77-year-old widow in poor health. She had an estate worth more than $1 million, and one daughter, Sally. Sally was in her second marriage, which was not going well. Mary was concerned that Sally, a warm and trusting individual, would soon be divorced again and that Luke, Sally’s spouse, would advantage of her. Mary laid awake many nights deeply concerned about Sally’s future and security.

Success:

Mary’s estate plan, which was prepared many years prior by a now-retired attorney, provided that Sally would receive her inheritance outright and free of trust. We revised Mary’s plan so that Sally would receive her inheritance in trust so that the inheritance will remain safe and secure for Sally’s well-being and away from Luke’s hands should they ever divorce.
