Jody Kline, the head of Miller, Miller & Canby’s Land Use and Zoning Practice, attended Lambda Alpha International’s (LAI) annual Land Economics Gathering on September 11-13, 2025 in Montréal, Canada. LAI is an honorary professional organization focused on land economics with twenty-six chapters around the world.  The event was LAI’s annual gathering with 150 attendees from the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia.  Jody is the President of the George Washington (DC) Chapter of LAI and participated in the organization’s administrative activities conducted at this annual gathering.

Key themes included Cutting Edge Architecture, Leadership in Artificial Intelligence, Trade and Commerce (e.g., the Port of Montréal and Canada Lands Company waterfront revitalization projects), Master Planned Community with Destination Luxury Retail and Housing Affordability Initiatives.  As Jody noted, “Montréal serves as a drop off point for trans-oceanic container ships and it then becomes the clearing house for rail, truck and St. Lawrence River Seaway distribution of food, consumer goods and industrial equipment throughout the North American continent.  During the conference we discussed the logistical coordination required to accomplish the movement of so much materials as well as the land use repercussions of high volume commercial and industrial activity on the quaint character of Montréal”.
