Mr. Schumann concentrates his practice in the field of tax and business transactions, including estate planning, tax planning, estate and trust administration, individual and business tax planning, organization of business entities, mergers and dissolutions, tax audits and appellate work before the Internal Revenue Service. His litigation practice has been narrowed to the fields relating to probate and trust in the state courts and tax litigation before the United States Tax Court.
EXPERIENCE:
Mr. Schumann has been with Miller, Miller & Canby since February 1973 and has been a principal of the firm since 1976. He has represented individual and business clients with varied legal problems, including such business entities as Glen Construction Co., DynCorp, Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Homes, Inc., Dustin Construction, Inc., Tischer Autopark, Inc., The Barrie School, Roberts’ Oxygen, Inc., and many other local businesses in the greater Washington area. Mr. Schumann has served as special counsel to the Trust and Investment Department at Sandy Spring Bank of Maryland and presently serves on its Board of Directors.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:
Mr. Schumann has been active in various charitable organizations, including the Montgomery General Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees, the Montgomery County Arts Council, the United Way of Frederick County, Asbury Foundation, the American Red Cross, and numerous bar association organizations. Mr. Schumann is a frequent lecturer on tax related topics to such organizations as: Montgomery General Hospital, Sandy Spring Bank of Maryland, Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc., Bar Association of Montgomery County and Frederick County Memorial Hospital.
