Michael G. Campbell

Mr. Campbell leads the litigation practice of Miller, Miller & Canby and has been with the firm since 1997. He became an equity partner in the firm in 2005. He focuses his practice on real estate and construction disputes in state and federal courts in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia and before arbitration panels. He handles cases relating to commercial and residential construction projects, property disputes, property tax appeals, contract disputes, lease enforcement, and related matters. Mr. Campbell has resolved many such disputes through mediation and private negotiation and successfully tried more than 100 cases before judges, juries and arbitrators.

Mr. Campbell regularly pursues property tax appeals with local assessment offices, the Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board (PTAAB), and the Maryland Tax Court. He has successfully reduced tax assessments on many types of commercial properties, including office buildings, retail stores, industrial sites, medical buildings, assisted living facilities and apartment complexes. In the process, he has developed relationships with representatives of The State Department of Assessment and Taxation (SDAT), which help facilitate the appeal process.

Before joining Miller, Miller & Canby, Mr. Campbell served as the judicial law clerk for the Honorable Paul A. McGuckian in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Aspiring Counseling, and the Board of Trustees for Virginia Beta, Inc. He previously served as treasurer of the Montgomery County Inn of the American Inns of Court. In June of 2018, he was nominated and selected to serve as President-Elect of the Montgomery County Inn of Court, and has officially begun his term as President as of June, 2019.

"In our interactions, Mike Campbell was prompt, communicative, patient and instructive. He stayed solidly on-target, where the aim was to best help his client. He was a professional who explained the situation, requested input, outlined the options, provided a recommendation and sought a decision. Additionally, I appreciated that he was supportive of my thinking. I won't hesitate to recommend Mike."

Joshua Mills

"No matter whether he is reviewing a contract or representing the housing corporation in judicial proceedings, Michael Campbell's level of responsiveness, breadth of knowledge, and attention to detail has been superb. Since first retaining Mr. Campbell, the housing corporation has called upon his expertise to address an expanding array of legal issues. These issues have impacted the housing corporation's financial operations as well as ensuring its compliance with statutory regulations."

Carl Hyde
Community Manager,
Promenade Towers Mutual Housing Corporation
"Michael is an exceptionally talented lawyer with experience in the areas where my company most often seeks the help of reliable outside counsel. We have asked him to handle much of our litigation requirements and he has done so with very successful results. He is so versatile and reliable that he has essentially become another member of our legal department. His knowledge of the courts in all of the jurisdictions in which we do business is a huge asset to us. For a company like ours with limited in-house legal resources, Michael's ability to quickly understand our needs and get favorable results is of great value to us."

Robert McKew
Assistant General Counsel
Pohanka Automotive Group

"After months of negotiations in a difficult contract dispute with poor prospects of avoiding court, Michael Campbell was successful in negotiating a settlement in mediation at 10% of the plaintiff's demands.  Thanks MM&C!"
